Hi Everyone, sorry it has been so long since I posted anything we had a great winter season, filled with tons of snow and ice. I had a great time playing in the snow this year, as did our crew. I know most of you are very happy winter is almost done with. We added some new customers this year, I want to say thank you to them as well as all of our current customers, we hope everyone’s winter season was safe!

It looks like we are having a rainy start to the spring, I hope that means that we will have a cooler summer this year. Myself and the crew are looking forward to a little rest and then it’s back to work on all the trucks and equipment to get them ready to rock and roll come November. We are adding a few more pieces of equipment this year, and we are very excited for the upcoming season to see what it has in store for us. I hope everyone has a pleasant and relaxing summer and remember November is just around the corner.

Every winter season countless preventable accidents happen because people fail to plan for the inevitable here is a handy checklist to make sure nothing is forgotten or missed before the snow and ice become an everyday occurrence.

___ Review the terms of your Snow Removal contract with your provider.

___ Is Snow Removal completed prior to the start / end of a shift? What types of deicers are being used?

___ Do we have buckets of salt located at each of the doorways?

___ Does maintenance have a schedule/system in place for dealing with intermittent snow fall during the course the day or night?

___ Does our maintenance staff have the proper tools and equipment necessary for the entire snow season? Or will our provider be responsible to clear the walks, sidewalks and apply deicing materials?

___ Have we repaired problem areas from the last year that may have prevented proper water runoff/drainage?

___ Do we have benches at all doorways so that employees can change out of their Wet winter boots into Dry work shoes?

___ Have we blocked off potential “short cut” walking routes that may not be properly maintained?

___ Have we cleared all parking lot, and or walkway obstructions which may hinder total removal of snow and ice?

___ Have we reviewed our contract with our rug suppliers? Do we have sufficient and frequent rotation of rugs at all doorways?

___ Do we provide/encourage the use of proper footwear for employees who frequently travel or work outside?

___ Have we replaced all of the burnt out light bulbs at entrances and in the parking lot lighting?

___ Could we develop and incentive/reward program for a season free of slip and falls?

___ Do we have adequate signage, floor cleaning equipment and snow removal equipment located next to all doorways?

___ Do we have trained employees to increase awareness? Have we developed a snow log to monitor/document regualr snow removal efforts?

Wow what a smoking hot summer we are having, I for one cannot wait for winter time to be upon us again. We have been trying to stay as cool as possible, which has been very hard to do, luckily the office has a small air conditioner. I have been busy rebuilding the body of the new truck, as well as getting it up to Moonlight’s standards. The new truck is a Chevy one ton dually extended cab flatbed, that my daughter has named “Duke”, so when Duke is complete it will be a dedicated salt truck, readily available 24 hours a day 7 days a week to service our customers. I hope everyone is having a great summer, don’t worry the snow will be here before you know it.

I for one along with my family & friends are in, wholeheartedly. 200.000 jobs could be created by each of us spending $64.00 on American Made holiday gifts it’s so simple it has to work, lets show our leaders how to get our country back in the green. At the end of the article there is a link to American Made holiday gifts that is pretty extensive and getting bigger each day, that is so cool to see how diverse the list actually is. I don’t want to end up on a rant or anything like that I will say we as Americans need to get back to what made our county prosperous, “Made in the U.S.A.” shouldn’t be a tag line it should be a way of life! Merry Christmas Everyone.

I love it, winter has finally arrived here in S.E. Michigan. We are getting our first real taste of the winter weather, rain turned over to snow around 10pm this evening and since has been gathering on metal and glass surfaces. From the early reports coming in areas to the west of us including the Lansing area are going to see around 4″ of fresh snow when all is done. As I sit here typing, it is going on 2am and I am wide awake, watching radars and road cameras, enjoying every minute of it. I bet today was filled with mixed emotions from a variety of individuals, joy for those who love this time of year and the weather it brings, panic to others who hate driving in the snow and ice, and then there are those folks who just don’t care either way. It looks so beautiful outside at the moment, trees are covered in a light snow that sparkles when light hits it, the entire landscape looks so fresh and clean. The down side is there isn’t enough to be able to play in, and with tomorrow’s temperature getting up to 40 degrees the snow will melt away by mid morning if not sooner. I hope you enjoyed the snow, and if not sorry it’s winter in Michigan.

Moonlight Snow Removal Joins National SnowCare for Troops Movement to Support Local Families again this Snow Season.

Moonlight Snow Removal of Oakland County, MI joins the ranks with the SnowCare for Troops program, a new community-based program to provide free snow removal services for military families with a spouse or family member serving in the armed forces. Moonlight Snow Removal will participate with snowplow and landscape professionals from across the country that donate their services and time to ease the burden on military families seeking help on the home front. SnowCare for Troops ia a national program coordinated by Project EverGreen and underwritten by THE BOSS snowplow.

“We’re proud to support the SnowCare for Troops program and lend a hand to help our local military families who already carry so much on their shoulders, the last thing they should be worrying about is digging out after the next snowstorm,” says Brian Bayley owner of Moonlight Snow Removal. “This is just one small way that we can say thank you for their dedication to country and military service.”

Before the first snow flies, Moonlight Snow Removal is urging interested families to register for participation in the SnowCare for Troops program by calling them at 248-909-7435. They can also visit the Project EverGreen website at www.projectevergreen.com/scft or call toll free at 1-888-611-2956. Participation is limited.

“This program is a natural extension of our nationally-known GreenCare for Troops program, where free service is provided to military families in need of lawn and landscape services,” explains Project EverGreen Director Den Gardner. “With one spouse left to manage all the household duties, in-kind service donations by professionals and volunteers like Moonlight Snow Removal does so much to reduce family stress and show in a tangible way our support for America’s military families.”

Along with the participation of Moonlight Snow Removal, there are many opportunities for the community to get involved, including loaning snow removal equipment to volunteers or groups, and donating money, transportation or gas cards to offset snow removal and maintenance costs.

The SnowCare for Troops program joins the four-year program, GreenCare for Troops, managed by Project EverGreen that has already provided free lawn and landscape services to thousands of military families. The program now has more than 10,000 military families in it’s database and is supported by nearly 3,000 green industry professionals and volunteers.

To learn more about how to support SnowCare for Troops, visit www.projectevergreen.com/scft or www.bossplow.com/snowcarefortroops or call 1-888-611-2956

September 29th 2011, A couple of us took a ride down to the MGIA Michigan Snow Conference and Expo, to see all the newest and latest technology in the industry. Now I guess I am still some what of a kid at heart, I love free samples, there I said it I have a problem. There were all kinds of free goodies to be had, from hats to salt and of coarse the mountains of paper information from all the various vendors and suppliers. The show did seem smaller than previous years, all the the major plow brands were represented, Western, Boss, Fisher, Meyer and Hinker. Liquid salt brine distributors were everywhere this year, it looks like the liquid brine industry is growing by leaps and bounds. The best freebie by far from this years show was from Great Deal Products makers of Michigan made Hot Pink Deicer, they were giving away 12.5lbs shaker jugs of their “Smokin’ Hot Pink Deicer” that is safe for pets, plants and people. Thanks guys I can’t wait to try the product out. You can find them at www.hotpinkdeicer.com
